learn to DM & Creative writing class

Brand new class added! Sign up now, space is limited.

Learn how to run your very own games of Dungeons & Dragons and take your creative writing to the next level! Using the brand new 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide students will learn the basics of how to build and run their own Dungeons & Dragons Campaigns. Lessons are created by sci-fi and fantasy television writer Oliver Grigsby (Heroes, Star Trek: Picard, Magic: The Gathering) and taught by entertainment industry professionals with experience in acting, writing and editing.

Lessons will cover:

  • How to build and run the three types of encounters (combat, social and exploration)
  • Using encounters to craft an Adventure with a beginning, middle & end.
  • World Building – Making your world feel alive and relevant to your players’ characters (NPCs, Locations, Bosses & Villains).
  • How to create battle maps that tell a story (get hands on with our 3D terrain tiles to craft your encounter).
  • Creative Writing Exercises to bring all of the above to the next level (using setup and payoff, building dramatic tension, creating unique characters with individual voices).

What to Bring:
Students should bring a notebook and are welcome to bring a copy of the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide if they wish but we will have copies on hand to loan during class.

If your child is enrolled for our preceding Dungeons & Dragons class from 10am-12pm they are welcome to stay in class for a supervised half-hour lunch from 12pm-12:30pm. Students should bring their own non-perishable lunch, and something to drink. Please no nuts or nut-products, thank-you!
